What Toy Story Mania attempts but ultimately fails to achieve is to give you the feeling of entering the 4-D Toy Story attraction at the Disney parks. Toy Story Mania could have done better with some bespoke voice acting and maybe a few story bits to help make the game less shallow. This is as far as the game goes, however, to capture the magic of the movies and theme park. Each character hosts their own set of galleries and mini-games for you to participate in. Potatohead, the toy soldier army, Little Bo-Peep and Slinky Dog to name a few. Woody and Buzz are joined by a ton of fan-favorites, including Ham, Mr. Toy Story Mania is jam-packed with iconic characters from the legendary Pixar movie series.
This approach can ultimately feel a bit dry. You just pick what you want to play and begin. The 3 mini-games are Woody’s Roundup (5 levels), Buzz Adventures (5 levels) and Aliens Escapes (2 levels) which follow the events of the Toy Story 2 movie.The main drawback is that there is no real story to grab you and get your exploring. After the player has completed a level in Story Mode, they can go back and replay it to try the 2 Challenge modes, which are Cube Destruction and Time Attack, that allow the player to win coins and unlock trophies. There are 13 levels in the Story Mode that follows the events of the movie and but do not feature enemies or boss fights. The player can play as either Woody, Buzz, Jessie (level 10 only), Squeeze Toy Aliens (level 12 and Alien Escapes) and the Green Army Men (level 2 only). The PlayStation Portable versions were developed by Asobo Studio.
